The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia specifically promotes fatherhood work at the municipal integration centers in order to strengthen fathers with a history of immigration in their role as family fathers. The aim is to support them in their parenting role and to emphasize their importance as positive role models for their children. Working with fathers plays a crucial role, particularly in the context of preventing extremism and violence: they should be strengthened and integrated as active and responsible caregivers in education and the communication of values. The 6-part training series for prospective father mentors has been running at the Municipal Integration Center of the City of Cologne since 17.09.2025. Participants are trained by experts such as Sandro Di Maggio and Prof. Dr. Michael Tunç to carry out fatherhood work for fathers with an international family history. Work with the actual target group will then begin in 2026 in the form of fathers' evenings and similar events.
