RomBuk - Education and Culture in Rome e. V.
The RomBuK project has been funded by the City of Cologne since 2019.
It helps Sinti*zze and Rom*nja to have the same rights and opportunities as all other people. Sinti*zze are members of the Sinti people. Roma are members of the Roma people.
The work of RomBuK focuses on education against racism and on empowering Sinti*zze and Rom*nja.
The basis for this are educational programs, the library and the archive of Rom e. V.
The offers are for young people and adults. Teachers and other important people in society are particularly targeted. The offers can be adapted to the wishes of the groups.
RomBuK is also present on Facebook and Instagram.
RomBuK organizes many Educational offers. For example, there are:
- Workshops, training courses, events and conferences
- Projects such as the Contemporary witness project and the project SpuRom:nja
- Guided city tours and city rallies through Cologne
- "Actionbound" (a cell phone app) city rally and the Handout for the actionbound city rally "SpuRom:nja"
- Online magazine called Nevipe
- Collections of materials, for example Recommended reading for teachers
- Information and films, for example on the movie "Djelem, djelem". Here the Trailer and the Flyer to the movie
Library
The library has over 7,000 books, magazines and other media. It also has a unique collection of books written by Sinti*zze and Rom*nja.
Archive and documentation center
The archive contains, for example, photos, documents and estates from the civil rights movement. The collection is very important and one of the most significant in Europe.
The main task is to collect the memories and personal stories of the communities. In this way, important events from the perspective of Sinti*zze and Rom*nja should not be forgotten.
Many contemporary documents have already been digitized by the DigiRom project.
